IC Feminist United will host a screening of “I Was a Teenage Feminist” in Textor 103 on Thursday, November 30 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. A discussion moderated by Professor Carla Golden will follow about how the documentary, made in 2005, holds up today.
Here’s the film’s synopsis: “Why is it that some young, independent, progressive women in today’s society feel uncomfortable identifying with the F-word? Join filmmaker Therese Shechter as she takes a funny, moving and very personal journey into the heart of feminism. Armed with a video camera and an irreverent sense of humor, Shechter talks with feminist superstars, rowdy frat boys, liberated Cosmo girls and Radical Cheerleaders, all in her quest to find out whether feminism can still be a source of personal and political power.”

Favorite part about IC:
My favorite part about IC is seeing people I know around campus. Either from my class, my clubs or anywhere in-between, there is always a friendly face to wave to walking around on campus. Any interaction like these can brighten my day!
Favorite Honors seminar you’ve taken and why:
My favorite seminar I’ve taken so far was Sex, Gender and Desire with Carla Golden. It really opened my eyes to how and why we are conditioned by society to think the way we do. Our class discussions were awesome and learning from both Carla and my peers in the class was a great opportunity.
Coolest opportunity you’ve had through IC and/or the Honors program:
The coolest opportunity I’ve had through IC was participating in the ICLA program this past summer. Living and working in a city as awesome as L.A. has really opened my eyes to the professional world. I travelled a lot and met some really interesting people I plan to stay in touch with through the years.
We’re always looking for interesting students to highlight in our Spotlight series.
