Admission to Honors

Admission to Honors

Incoming first-year students
Any first-year student may apply to the Ithaca College Honors Program after being accepted to Ithaca College. To apply, complete the application in myIthaca, including submission of short essays in response to the following two questions:

(1) In honors seminars, you’ll think critically across disciplines and exchange thoughts and viewpoints. If you could design a new seminar for the Ithaca College Honors Program, what would its subject be, and how would you teach it? What life experiences and knowledge would you bring to this course? Please be specific about the readings, experiences, and teaching approaches you would want to incorporate into your seminar.

(2) Honors students learn a lot from one another. What will you contribute to the Honors community?

Requirements

  • Acceptance to Ithaca College.
  • Submission of application to the Ithaca College Honors program via myIthaca.
  • GPA of 3.0 (preferred)
  • Essay responses (see questions above)

Process

  • Apply in myIthaca after notification of acceptance to Ithaca College.
  • Deadline: mid March (music and theatre applicants may be granted an extension)
  • Students will be notified of their application status to the honors program via email.

  • Students may be waitlisted.

Acceptance to the honors program is rolling and is based on multiple criteria, including the applicant’s essay responses, GPA, high school academic achievement, community involvement, and potential contributions to the honors community. The honors program also strives to ensure that as broad a range of majors as possible is represented. One hundred and twenty first-year and transfer students are selected to join the honors program each fall. Applicants may be placed on a waitlist. Apply in myIthaca.
