Honors Faculty/Staff Spotlight: Bob Sullivan!

Hello Honorites!

This week we are doing an “Honors Faculty/Staff Spotlight”! If you have a Honors faculty member or Honors professor that you want to nominate, please email TTaylor6@ithaca.edu with their name!

This Honors Faculty/Staff Spotlight goes to Bob Sullivan! Read below to find out more about him!

What Honors course(s) do you currently teach?

Bob: Nothing this term, but in past I have taught about six different sems, Slow Reads…etc. My heart is always with my mighty First-Years from Golden City.

What sort of morning routine do you have to get jazzed for class?

Bob: I never appear in public until extraordinarily caffeinated.

Do you have any hidden talents?

Bob: Any talents that I have are so well hidden that I don’t know of them.

What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you in a class?

Bob: Showed up in a class and taught for ten minutes before I realized I was in the wrong room. I blame the students who were too dazzled to say anything.

If you won the lottery and decided to give up teaching, what would you do instead?

Bob: I know this makes me a wicked dope but my wife and I have talked about this many times before. I’d say, “Whopee!,” tear up my mortgage, tell my daughter to buy her place in Brooklyn, buy a motor scooter, and start prepping for the next day’s classes. My firm expectation is that I will die in Friends 308.

If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?

Bob: Any real joy you experience in life will come as the result of your relationships with other people. As Forster says in Howard’s End, “Only connect.”
