Special Screening and Workshop with Kartika Pratiwi from EngageMedia in Indonesia on Tuesday, December 12th @ 4-6pm in Park 277!

Kartika Pratiwi was born in Malang, Indonesia and graduated from a Master Program in Cultural Studies. She has been an independent researcher with an interest in narrative discourse on the 1965 genocide in Indonesia, Chinese-Indonesian issues and digital storytelling.

Since 2008, she has been part of kotakhitam Forum – an independent organization, dedicated to research; workshops and documentary movie production for social and political changes. During that time, she has been involved in documentary film productions including Api Kartini (2012); and several video archives on Indonesian political history and collective memory. With kotakhitam Forum, she regularly runs Seroean Sedjarah, History on Screen, and RePLAY project to facilitate history teachers and youth to use popular media as a learning tools in schools.

Since 2015, she has worked for EngageMedia, a non-profit organisation to provide strategies for the effective use of video distribution, connecting video makers, journalists, and activists.

This special workshop is cosponsored by the Honors Program, Documentary Studies and Production, and the Office of the Dean in the Roy H. Park School of Communications.

Reminder: The Inaugural Ithaca Seminar Symposium Is On Dec 14th!

The Ithaca Seminar Symposium will be held from Noon to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, in Emerson Suites. 

This inaugural event provides an opportunity for the newest members of our learning community to disseminate the products of their scholarly work through public presentation – a high impact practice for first-year seminars.

More than 120 first year students have opted to model this through performances, original literature readings, poster presentations, creative projects and platform presentations.

Students from all schools will be presenting during one of two sessions: Noon to 1:30 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please show your support for your fellow peers students by attending!

Come to the Info Session to learn more about Malawi (The Warm Heart of Africa): Thursday, December 7th at 12:10pm in CHS 207

Trip details: The goal of this trip is to immerse students in various aspects of healthcare in Malawi through experiential learning including: actively participating in mobile medical clinics and pediatric rehabilitation centers, visiting hospitals and crisis care nurseries, and interacting with local community members and healthcare providers.

Welcome to our weekly events roundup! The campus is bustling as the semester draws to a close – here’s a sample of what’s happening this week.

redandbrownwater.jpgThe Ithaca College Department of Theatre Arts will present In the Red and Brown Water, written by Moonlight screenwriter Tarell Alvin McCraney, from December 5-10 in the Clark Theatre. Tickets are available at https://ithaca.ticketforce.com or in person at the box office in Dillingham Center.

The Campus Choral Ensemble will perform tonight at 7:00 p.m. in Ford Hall. The Woodwind Chamber Ensembles will also perform at 7:00 in Hockett Family Recital Hall.

The Campus Band and Campus Jazz Ensemble will perform Wednesday at 7:00 in Ford Hall. Piano/Instrumental Duos will perform in Hockett Family Recital Hall at 7:00.

ICTV’s Blinded, a new dating show, will premiere at 8:00 p.m. in Park Auditorium.

iamjazzA reading of “I Am Jazz,” a children’s book about a transgender child based on author Jazz Jenning’s personal experiences, will take place in the Handwerker Gallery at 12:10 p.m. on Thursday, December 5. The event is sponsored by the LGBT Center, Handwerker Gallery, and the Ithaca College Library.

twelfthnight.jpgAt 6:00 p.m. Thursday in the Handwerker Gallery, students, faculty, and alumni will perform in a staged reading of Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare.

At 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Hockett Family Recital Hall, the Intergenerational Choir will perform.

hifashion.jpgAt 8:00 p.m. in Emerson Suites on Thursday, HiFashion Studios will present “The Fifth Element,” its latest fashion show.

The Jazz Repertory Ensemble will perform Thursday at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall.

Friday from noon to 4:00 p.m. in Studio 1, students in Musical Theatre Workshop: Repertoire & Style will perform ten-minute cabaret acts. Come and go as you please; audience members do not have to stay the whole time.

IC Stand-Up, IC Sketch Club, Acahti Players, and IC Comedy Club are performing downtown at the Community School of Music and Arts Friday at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door.

IC Voicestream will host their Block II concert at 8:00 Friday in Emerson Suites.

 

unbound.jpgIC Unbound will perform their fall dance showcase Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Emerson Suites. Pre-sale tickets will be sold in Campus Center from December 6-8th for $3.00 and tickets will also be sold at the door for $5.00.

On December 13 at 7:00 p.m. in Textor 102, Handle with Care, an ICTV scripted comedy, will premiere.

The Writing Center will host a “Cocoa and Cram” event from 7-10 p.m. in Smiddy 109. Snacks and walk-in writing help will be provided.
