Meet Emma, an incoming Speech-Language Pathology first-year student! This summer, Emma is headed to Haiti to help construct a school in the Les Cayes region of Haiti, with her school’s chapter of the national organization buildOn. This will be her second time going to Haiti with buildOn (she’s featured with one of the kids from Haiti in her photo!).
“It was such an incredible and transformative experience last year, especially through the experience of living with a host family in the village. I cannot wait to return and work hard alongside the villagers on the worksite to bring education to people who really need it.”
Emma is also excited to participate in Honors seminars once she gets on campus.
“What piqued my interest in the Honors program was the opportunity to take discussion-based seminars. My high school classes that have been taught in this way were always my favorite and I think they are the most valuable in shaping opinions and encouraging an understanding of the views of others. I feel that my college experience would not be complete without being a part of this kind of learning environment.”
What are you doing this summer? Honors wants to know!
